Jan started her business, Live Oak Dog Obedience, in California, in 1978. She learned dog behavior and how dogs communicate with each other by observing behavior between mother dogs and their puppies and also working with wolf hybrids, where in both there is a definite pack order. She trains dogs using thought processes and training methods that dogs use with each other. Humans usually use human thinking when training a dog, using treats or heavy duty electric collars, but have you ever seen a mother dog or alpha wolf use either of these methods? Jan helps owners understand and train dogs by using the methods dogs use with each other. Jan is a Behavioral Specialist, helping her clients to solve all problems that possibly would have resulted in re-homing, abuse or neglect. She works with owners and their dogs developing and stressing manners and good behavior at home and in public.

First time I used live oak obedience 4 years ago I had a dog with not only behavioral issues with dogs but with people as well. Ghost was a dog I really did not think could ever be trained. He was fear aggressive and had been too much for other people and he was older . I was amazed just in the first class how fast he caught on to things fast forward to today. He is a new dog thanks to Jan . It is an amazing feeling when people say they can’t believe how much he has improved. The training techniques are by far the best I’ve seen especially for those stubborn dogs like huskies. I would highly recommend Live Oak dog obedience to everyone ! She has competed in Obedience with her dogs and has trained all breeds and temperaments.

I purchased a 2 year old german shepherd mix off the classifieds to be a family pet not knowing she had been abused. It didn’t take long for her to show signs of aggression. I really loved her but with 4 kids I didn’t know if I could keep her. I had worked with other trainers with previous dogs but didn’t have much success. When I started to struggle with this dog I was devastated that I didn’t have what it took to train dogs. Working with Jan was a miracle. Her method and approach made all the difference. She not only taught me what to do but she taught me the why behind the training, why dogs do what they do and how to work together to get the results I wanted. We now have a dog who is a model citizen. We get compliments all the time on her polite behavior and we couldn’t imagine life without her.

Thank Jan!
